FAQ: Hosting MCP Servers

Q: Can I host an MCP server on Vercel?

A: It’s difficult. Vercel Serverless Functions have execution time limits (usually 10-60 seconds). MCP sessions can last minutes or hours. You will face constant disconnects unless you use a specialized long-running infrastructure like PrevHQ.

Q: Is it secure to expose an MCP server publicly?

A: Yes, if you use Auth. PrevHQ provides built-in authentication layers. You can require an API key or an OAuth token to connect to your MCP endpoint, preventing unauthorized agents from accessing your data.

Q: Does this work with Claude Desktop?

A: Yes. In your claude_desktop_config.json, instead of pointing to a local command ("command": "python server.py"), you point to the SSE URL ("url": "https://.../sse"). It works exactly the same, but now your computer doesn’t need to be on.
